Lorna and Elaine are co-owners of The Pilates Hub in Edinburgh, Scotland. Having previously been clients and freelance teachers, they went into partnership with then-owner Ellie in 2020, when it became clear that it was the only way to keep the studio open. How else would they keep up a regular practice?!
Though not naturally business minded, Lorna and Elaine have developed some ‘best practices’ to ensure that they spend the most time they can doing and teaching Pilates, and minimising time spent on client bookings, payments, and other time-consuming management tasks.
In this 50-min discussion we’ll share some of the things we’ve adopted that have had the most impact on how we spend our time in the studio. We’ll look at how valuable it is to have well defined services, which includes knowing what you offer and who it’s aimed at. We’ll talk about how you can set up your classes to help your clients embrace Pilates as a full system, and why memberships are the way forward. Finally, we’ll share how we deal with the inevitable emotional side of being asked to forgive late cancels, feeling like we’ve let clients down, or worrying that we just don’t have enough to give.
We hope that by sharing our experiences, we can inspire and encourage you to find ways to spend more time doing and teaching Pilates, because after all, we’re all in it for the love.
